Field Hockey Dominates Cabrini, 6-2
November 12, 2008
WASHINGTON-- Two Cardinals recorded multi-goal games as CUA dominated Cabrini college 6-2, Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the 2008 ECAC field hockey tournament.
Mary Swarthout (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and Molly Mahoney (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy) both recorded two goals today, while seven Cardinals recorded at least one shot on goal.
Kendall Petschauer (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) opened the scoring in the 13th minute and the Cardinals never looked back. It wasn't until 29 minutes, and three more CUA goals later, that Cabrini cracked into the scoresheet. Swarthout tallied both of her goals, one from the stick of Ro Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./Country Day Sacred Heart), and one from Kelly Burke (Glendora, N.J./Bishop Eustace) in that time. Liz McCormick (Broomhall, Pa./Country Day Sacred Heart) made her presence felt as well in those 29 minutes grabbing a goal and giving Burke her second helper of the day.
Lauren Alessi took a penalty stroke and tallied the first goal for Cabrini after a foul was called in front of Marian Cassilly's (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) net.
Mahoney added two more goals late in the game to expand the Cardinal lead to five with just over ten minutes to play.
Cabrini finished the game with a barrage of shots and managed to find the net on only one after Dixon marked two defensive saves and kept the game in check for CUA.
The Cardinals, who are ranked No. 4 will return to action against the winner of No. 8 Misericordia (13-7) at No. 1 William Paterson (14-3), that game is currently underway.
