Field Hockey Falls to St. Mary's in Strokes, 3-2
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.-- Coming off the bench and scoring in the 29th minute, Tory Gaglardi put CUA (6-2) on the board early, but two St. Mary's (5-4) goals just after the half combined with Meredith Chandler's seventh of the year forced overtime. After two overtime periods the game went to strokes and St. Mary's found the edge taking a 3-2 win from the Cardinals.
Gaglardi scored late in the first half as Brynn Becker and Kendall Petschauer got assists on the penalty corner goal. Samantha Locke then scored two goals in 1:02 for the Seahawks to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. Chandler evened the game in the 69th minute during scramble in front of the net.
In the extra sessions both teams recorded shots, but failed to score. After 100 minutes of the play the game went to strokes where St. Mary's out-stroked the visitors 8-6 to earn the decision.
CUA out shot the hosts 31-13 but Emma Lauhoff recorded 15 saves to keep the Cardinals in check. CUA will return to action on Oct. 7 when Goucher College will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the Cardinals at Cardinal Stadium. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
