Field Hockey Upset by Susquehanna, 2-1


WASHINGTON- Catholic University's field hockey team dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to conference foe Susquehanna University in round one of the Landmark Conference Championships Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, CUA drops to 11-6 on the year, while the Crusaders improve to 10-8.

While both teams struggled offensively in the first half, Susquehanna was was the first to get on the board. Andrea Fiori chipped in an unassisted goal at the 41 minute mark to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Midway through the second half, the squad struck again, as Ally Bradley converted a scramble in front of the net.

Meredith Chandler finally answered for the Cards, blasting in an unassited goal just inside the right post in the 65th minute. CUA had several close shots to tie the game up in the final minutes of play, but could not capitalize, and Susquehanna nabbed the 2-1 victory.

The Cardinals will now await to hear their post-season fate, and the possibility of an ECAC game.
