Field Hockey Opens with 3-0 Win Over McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md.-- Liz McCormick led the way with a goal and an assist as CUA field hockey picked up a 3-0 win over McDaniel College on the road on Saturday.
The Cardinals took only seven shots in the game but made each shot count. McDaniel's Stephanie Thomson made two saves but allowed three goals, including McCormick's first of the season less than six minutes into the game.
CUA's Carley Walko added an insurance goal at 12:34 off a McCormick pass while Tory Gagliardi added another just over 54 minutes into the contest. Kendall Petschauer and Mary Swarthout added assists on the day.
The Cardinals outshot their opponents 7-4, but with an 8-4 advantage on corners CUA kept the pressure on throughout the game.
The Cardinals return to action tomorrow, as CUA welcomes Randolph-Macon to Cardinal Stadium for the 2009 home opener. The game will begin at 2 p.m.
