CUA chosen second in field hockey preseason poll
WASHINGTON – The Catholic University field hockey team was
selected second in the 2010 Landmark Conference preseason poll, it
was announced on Friday. The Cardinals received 65 points in
the poll, which is voted upon by the league’s seven head
coaches and sports information directors. Defending champion
Juniata sits atop the poll with 75 points.
CUA won 12 games a season ago, including five contests within the
Landmark. Head coach Gia Cillizza’s squad hosted a pair
of postseason contests, including an ECAC quarterfinal game, in
which the Cardinals downed Kean by a score of 3-1.
Following the 2009 season five CUA student-athletes earned
All-Landmark honors, including four on the First-Team, while
current senior Liz Grumbein was named to the All-South Atlantic
Region Second-Team.
Following Juniata and CUA in the poll were Susquehanna (54), Drew
(42), Scranton (38), Morvaian (26) and Goucher (15).
The Cardinals, who began preseason practice earlier this week,
will get their season going on September 1st when they play host to
Virginia Wesleyan inside Cardinal Stadium. Game time is set
for 4:30.
