Field hockey team volunteers at Special Olympics D.C.

WASHINGTON - This spring, the CUA Field Hockey team volunteered with Special Olympics D.C. as the organization prepared for its Summer Games.

During the first week of May, the Special Olympics group held its track and field qualifying events at Cardinal Stadium. The CUA field hockey players assisted with the softball throw, broad jump, long jump, and relay runs while interacting with the Special Olympics athletes.

"These athletes are amazing and our players really enjoyed the opportunity to work with them and cheer them on," coach Gia Cillizza said. "Special Olympics D.C. is an impressive organization and we felt lucky to be included."

Earlier in the year, the Cardinals spread holiday cheer at the Armed Forces Retirement Home. Many of the players also have ongoing volunteer commitments.
