CUA debuts in regional polls at number six
WASHINGTON – On a day when it advanced to the conference championship game, and two days after it remained in the national polls, the CUA field hockey team made its debut in the 2010 South Atlantic Region rankings on Wednesday. The Cardinals check in at number-six in the region.
CUA has been nationally ranked for seven consecutive weeks, including No. 16 this week. The Cardinals have also been listed among the nation's best in several other rating and ranking systems, but on Wednesday news came that they are now among the region's best. The regional rankings are used to help determine NCAA Tournament berths and seedings.
The other five teams ranked along with CUA in the South Atlantic region are Messiah, Eastern, Lebanon Valley, The College of New Jersey and Juniata. CUA has won each of its games over regional foes, which carry more weight than out-of-region wins in the polls.
All of the regional rankings can be found here.
CUA will return to action on Saturday when the Cardinals look for their first-ever Landmark Conference championship with a trip to take on top-seeded Juniata in the 2010 conference championship game. CUA fell to the Eagles 4-2 in mid-October at home.
