CUA Sweeps Soccer Players of the Week

WASHINGTON--CUA swept the player of the week bracket in
both men’s and women’s soccer this week. In men’s
soccer, Matt Brady was the offensive player of the week while
CUA’s goalkeeper Quinn Daly received the defensive player of
the week title. The goalkeeper for the Cardinal’s
women’s soccer team, Tere Rossi, was also the Landmark
Conference defensive player of the week while CUA’s Kelly
Donnelly was the offensive player of the week.
Matt Brady proved to be instrumental in Catholic’s two
victories this week which led the team to its first Landmark
Conference men’s soccer championship. In the semi-final game
against USMMA the Cardinal’s emerged with a 3-1 win. Brady
played a role in each one of these goals scoring the first two and
assisting the third. Later in the week he scored the second goal in
Catholic’s 3-0 championship victory over Scranton.
Quinn Daly ruled the net for his sixth shutout of the season in
the championship game against Scranton. Daly made three saves in
the game to secure the Cardinal’s 3-0 victory and their first
ever NCAA tournament bid. In the semifinal game against USMMA he
also made 3 saves and only gave up one goal. The men's soccer team
will travel to Christopher Newport to take on Lynchburg College in
the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
Kelly Donnelly scored the only goal in a close 1-0 victory over
Susquehanna for the Landmark Conference women’s soccer
championship. She scored in the 67th minute of the game to secure
the win. Donnelly also had an assist on a vital goal in the
semifinal 3-2 win against Scranton. With the addition of these
three points she leads the conference with 35 points for the
season.
Tere Rossi played a huge role in Catholic’s 1-0 championship victory over Susquehanna. Rossi made four saves to secure her sixth shutout of the year as well as the Landmark women’s soccer Conference championship. In the semifinal game she made three saves while allowing only two goals leading to CUA’s 3-2 victory over Scranton. The Cardinals will travel to Washington and Lee to take on Lynchburg at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14.
