WASHINGTON - Three Cardinals were named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week for their contributions for the week of October 28 – November 3. Chris Larson (Nassau, Bahamas/Portsmouth Abbey) and Torsten Meuschke (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) swept the men’s soccer awards, while Lexi Halperin (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) earned her second weekly award of the season in goal for women’s soccer.
Larson led the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over Scranton in the team’s only action this past week. He finished off a cross in the 53rd minute to break the scoreless tie and lifted Catholic to the win. The senior’s second goal of the season couldn’t have come at a better time, as the win secured the No. 1 seed for the Cardinals in the upcoming Landmark Conference tournament.
In goal, Meuschke commanded a backline that did not allow a score for the team’s ninth time this season, it was the junior’s seventh shutout of the year. Meuschke picked up three saves in the win and leads the conference with a .831 save percentage.
Halperin helped the Cardinals to a 1-0-1 record last week as the sophomore registered her fifth shutout of the year against Washington College. She made two saves against the Shorewomen, then had six saves against Scranton including a huge save that preserved the tie with less than two minutes to go in the second overtime period. Halperin helped shutdown a Scranton offense that averaged over 2.5 goals per game. She leads the conference with a .800 save percentage.
