Three Cardinals Named Landmark Conference Players of the Week
WASHINGTON – Three Cardinals earned Landmark Conference Players of the Week laurels for their efforts from Sept. 9-15.
Following their 2-0 record this week, the field hockey team swept the conference awards, as junior Kim Hermann was named the Offensive Player of the Week and senior Megan Comunale received the Defensive Player of the Week award.
Hermann led the Cardinals with three goals last week. She scored twice in the team’s 5-0 win over Gettysburg, including the game-winner. She then scored again as Catholic upended No. 14 Rowan 3-1 on Saturday.
Comunale anchored the Catholic defense and allowed just one goal during the week. She picked up six saves, while posting a shutout against Gettysburg. Comunale then turned away three shots during the team’s 3-1 victory over No. 14 Rowan.
The men’s tennis team was also represented in the weekly awards, as freshman Juan Lorido was named the Player of the Week. Lorido helped lead his team to a 2-0 start in his collegiate debut with victories over Hood and St. Mary’s (Md.). Lorido posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 singles spot then went 8-0 with Brian Bradley at the No. 1 doubles in wins against Hood. On Sunday, Lorido moved up to No. 1 singles and won 6-2, 6-4 against St. Mary’s (Md.) and then teamed up with Bradley again to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.
