CUA Basketball celebrates Alumni Day
WASHINGTON - On Saturday, February 2, over 80 alumni, family,
and friends gathered to participate in the CUA Basketball Alumni
Day at the Raymond A. DuFour Center.
Over 20 former women’s basketball players, spanning the last
35 years of CUA women’s basketball, broke into two teams and
played a spirited game.
The men’s alumni game followed with a group of 20 former
men’s basketball players gathering at midcourt of Franny
Murray Court for tip-off. The group represented the last 30 years
of Catholic men’s basketball and included a number of members
of the 2001 Division III National Championship team. The
camaraderie felt across the generations of CUA basketball alumni
was profound and friendly chatter went back and forth between teams
as lines were being drawn for next year’s games.
Following the games, the entire group moved upstairs to the Cardinal Room and enjoyed a reception for all basketball alumni and their families. Those in attendance were able to spend some time with current players prior to their games that evening against the University of Scranton, as well as having the chance to hear from current CUA women’s head basketball coach, Matt Donohue, and men’s head basketball coach, Steve Howes (class of 1996).
A special thanks goes out to all of those in attendance for
their continued support of Catholic University Athletics. The
support of generous alumni, family, and friends enables our coaches
and teams to continue to represent the University both on and off
the court and hopefully you will consider a gift this year. Go
Cardinals!
