Cardinals Earn Landmark Players of the Week
WASHINGTON - Catholic had four Cardinals named Landmark Conference Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 16-22.
Women’s volleyball player Mary Paige Nesfeder earned her first ever Player of the Week honors for leading her team to a 2-0 record last week. The freshman tallied 12 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers-Camden then registered 17 kills during a 3-1 victory over Misericordia.
Juan Lorido was awarded his second consecutive Landmark Conference Player of the Week after winning both of his No. 1 singles and doubles matches against Randolph-Macon and York (Pa.).
For the second straight week, Megan Comunale and Kim Hermann swept the field hockey Player of the Week awards for the Cardinals. Comunale was critical in Catholic’s 1-0 shutout of No. 3 Salisbury on Wednesday, as she picked up eight saves in the win. On Saturday, she did not allow a goal in 63 minutes of play.
Hermann scored the game-winning goal in the squad’s 1-0 upset of No. 3 Salisbury. It was her team-leading fourth goal of the year. On Saturday, she dished out an assist during the Cardinal’s 4-0 win over Misericordia.
