Landmark Conference announces changes to upcoming tournament games
WASHINGTON – Due to Hurricane Sandy moving into the
region, the Landmark Conference announced several changes to the
soccer and field hockey conference tournaments. Semifinal
games scheduled for Wednesday, October 31 will now be played on
Thursday, November 1. CUA will host men’s soccer and
field hockey contests, and women’s soccer will head to
Scranton.
Men’s soccer will get the Cardinals going this week when CUA
hosts Scranton on Thursday at 3 p.m. CUA defeated the then-No. 19
Royals 1-0 at home on October 20. The Cardinals enter the
tournament as the No. 2 seed and are riding a five-game winning
streak.
Women’s soccer travels to Pennsylvania on Thursday evening,
taking on top-ranked Scranton at 7 p.m. The same two teams
squared off two weeks ago in Washington and battled to a 0-0 draw
in double overtime, and they also met in last season’s
championship game.
The defending conference champion field hockey team learned
earlier on Sunday that it had earned the No. 1 seed in the
tournament. The Cardinals will now play host to No. 4
Susquehanna at 6 p.m. inside Cardinal Stadium. CUA defeated
the Crusaders 3-2 in Pa. earlier this season.
The CUA volleyball team finished its conference season with a
record of 5-1, earning its way directly into the semifinals of the
tournament. The Cardinals, and their 26 wins, will play the
winner of Moravian and Goucher on Saturday in Huntingdon, Pa.
Start time is set for 1:30 p.m., with the championship match
scheduled for 7 that evening.
The championships for field hockey and men's and women's soccer
are still on schedule for Saturday, November 3 at the site of the
highest remaining seeds.
