Jacqui Schuman named Associate Athletic Director at CUA
WASHINGTON – Jacqui Schuman has been named Catholic
University’s Associate Athletic Director it was announced by
Director of Athletics Mike Allen. Schuman takes over for
Tyler Fleming, who recently accepted a position at Saint Anslem
College in New Hampshire.
Schuman joins CUA from the University of Tennessee where she serves
as the Director of the CHAMPS/Life Skills & Student Life
Development Program. In this role she directs all aspects of
the Student-Athlete Development Program, including staff, budget,
curriculum and events. She also leads development
efforts for funding opportunities of student life/educational
gifts.
Prior to her time at Tennessee, Schuman had stints at Florida
Atlantic University, the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill,
and with the Nokia Sugar Bowl, serving in various roles ranging
from student-athlete counseling, game operations, promotional
activities, and event planning.
“Through her twelve years of experience in athletics, Jacqui
brings a diverse array of talents to our university,” Allen
explains. “Jacqui is a high energy person who impressed
us during the interview process with both her ability to excel in
the core responsibilities of the position, but also with her
capacity to serve in a leadership role as we continue to progress
as a department. We are excited for her to get
started.”
Schuman has been active in a variety of professional
organizations, having facilitated at the NCAA Student-Athlete
Leadership Conference, serving on NCAA Peer Review Teams, and
working as a consultant for the National Consortium's Mentors in
Violence Prevention and Branded a Leader Programs.
Schuman earned her bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt
University, where she was a four-year member of the
Commodores’ cross country/track and field program. She
went on to earn her master’s degree in Exercise and Sport
Science, with a concentration in Sports Administration, from the
University of North Carolina.
Schuman will begin at CUA on June 1.
