Cardinals perform well at Du Charme Invitational in Pa.

CARLISLE, Pa. – CUA continued its indoor season at the
DuCharme Invitational on Saturday, which was held on the campus of
Dickinson University. Kelly Carioto and Courtney Doran earned
first place finishes on the women’s side, while Joe Quigley
posted a second place finish in the 800 meters to lead the men.
CUA finished with 46.50 points on the women’s side, which
placed the Cardinals eighth in the team standings.
Kelsely Broomfield crossed in fourth place in the 400 meters, with
a time of 1:05.19, while Melanie Mulkern finished 14th in
1:09.07.
Broomfield posted the 11th fastest time in the 55 meter prelims,
crossing in 7.99 seconds, while Sarah Deitz placed 15th in 8.05 and
Mulkern came in 28th (8.37).
Deitz later added a seventh place finish in the 200, crossing in
28.67. Candance Williamson (29.81), Mulkern (30.18), and
Doran (30.62) each finished in the top-23.
The Cardinals had six runners in the 800 meters, led by Maria
Docal (2:40) and Tali Peretti (2:40.01), who placed 16th and 17th,
respectively. Kristen Rayfield (2:44.19), Grace Lally
(2:51.42), Corine Dolan (2:52.27) and Christine Kolberg (3:25.84)
also competed.
Also in the track events, the 4x400 relay team raced its way to a
time of 4:49.81.
In the field events, Carioto took first in the shot put with a
throw of 40’10 ¼”. Mary Clark came in
sixth (34’ 2”), Kerri Hanley was ninth (30’11
¾”), Kalia DeFalco came in 19th (26’ 9
¼”), and Christine Fontaine placed 24th (24’
2½”).
Doran earned her first place finish by clearing 4’11”
in the high jump.
Deitz finished ninth in the long jump, with a leap of
14’9¼”, with Williamson coming in 21st
(13’ 7½”.) Williamson later added a sixth
place finish in the triple jump (30’ 8¼”).
In the pole vault, Erin Sandlin finished fifth, clearing 9’
2¼”
Host Dickinson won the competition, totaling 149 points on the
afternoon. Messiah, Lebanon Valley, Hood and Goucher rounded
out the top-five.
On the men’s side, the Cardinals totaled 11 points on the
day, which put CUA in 13th place in the team standings.
Quigley had the top finish for the CUA men, placing second in the
800 meters, with a time of 2:00.61. George Brewer finished
17th in the event (2:10.32), while Ryan Anderson (2:14.01), Nick
Pavia (2:15.79) and Michael Kennedy (2:18.72) finished in the
top-32.
Matt Zemba had a strong performance in the 800, finishing eighth
in a time of 53.47 seconds. Christian Hibinski (57.11) and
Alex Hetzel (57.82) also competed in the event.
In the mile, Mike Puskar finished in a time of 4:46.75 to place
14th, while Dylan Jones (4:50.18), Chris Derks (4:50.41), Kian Olia
(4:58.72), and Kyle McKenna (5:01.37) finished 18th, 19th, 27th and
29th, respectively.
Michael Spielberger crossed in 11th place in the 3000 meters,
finishing in a time of 9:54.21.
In the relay events, the 4x400 team finished in 3:44.74.
Shawn Brubaker posted a 13th place finish in the shot put with a
throw of 37’ 1¾”.
Host Dickinson won the team competition with 124 points, while
Messiah, Merchant Marine Academy, CCNY and Lebanon Valley rounded
out the top-five.
CUA returns to action on Sunday, February 12 when the Cardinals
travel to compete at the Susquehanna Invitational. Action
gets underway beginning at 10 a.m.
