WASHINGTON – Welcome to CUA Athletics Weekend Preview,
your source for the latest happenings with the Cardinals.
Championship season begins on Saturday when cross country competes
at the conference championships, while the regular season ends for
men’s and women’s soccer and field hockey. In
other action, football, swimming, and volleyball have big matchups
of their own.
FIELD HOCKEY (13-1, 5-0 Landmark Conference)
The 12th ranked Cardinals will head to Madison, N.J.
on Saturday to battle Drew for the top spot in the Landmark
Conference Tournament. The Cardinals had a big win on Tuesday when
they beat the number one team in the nation Salisbury 2-1, and
increased their winning streak to nine. The match against Drew is
set to start at 1 p.m.
WOMEN’S SOCCER (10-6, 4-1 Landmark Conference)
The women’s soccer team will wrap up their
regular season schedule when they host Landmark Conference foe Drew
on Saturday. The Cardinals earned their tenth win of the season
with a dominating 6-0 victory over Hood College on Tuesday. The

Drew is slated for 2:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
MEN’S SOCCER (13-3,
6-0 Landmark Conference)
The 24th nationally ranked Cardinals will close out
their regular season on Saturday afternoon when CUA hosts Drew in a
battle for the number one seed in the upcoming conference
tournament. The Cardinals increased their winning streak to nine (a
new school record) when they downed St. Mary’s 4-1 on
Wednesday. The match against Drew will begin at 12 p.m. on
Senior Day.
VOLLEYBALL (22-6, 4-2 Landmark Conference)
The volleyball team will hit the road to battle a
quartet of opponents in the Messiah College Volleyball Tournament
on Friday and Saturday. The team hit a rough patch last week
with two losses against Franklin & Marshall and Washington
College, but earned a big come-from-behind win over Gallaudet on
Wednesday. CUA now looks to keep the momentum going in the
final regular season weekend. CUA’s match against
Messiah will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday with the Penn
State-Harrisburg match to follow at 7:30. On Saturday, the
Cardinals face Roanoke at 12:30 and FDU-Florham at 2:30.
FOOTBALL (5-2, 1-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference)
CUA looks for its third straight win when it heads to
Lexington, Va. on Friday evening for a showdown with Washington
& Lee. The Cardinals beat Emory & Henry last weekend
on Homecoming by a final score of 28-24. The Cardinals racked
up 400 yards of total offense and quarterback Greg Cordivari threw
a school record 64 passes, completing 46 of them, also a school
record. Kick-off on Friday is set for 7 p.m.
SWIMMING
The men’s and women’s swim teams will
start off the weekend racing against St. Mary’s on Friday and
then travel to conference foe Goucher on Saturday. Both Cardinal
teams faced two Division I schools last week, George Washington and
American, in an unscored tri-meet. The men were led by Justin
Kenyon who came in fourth in the 1650 free, while Melanie Rebechi
represented the women’s team in the 400 IM with a third place
finish. The meet on Friday against St. Mary’s will
begin at 5 p.m. and the one on Saturday against Goucher will start
at 1.
