WASHINGTON – Welcome to CUA Athletics Weekend Preview, your source for the latest happenings with the Cardinals. It’s a big weekend for the Cardinals with the swim team opening its season and CUA hosting round two of the Landmark Conference Volleyball Round Robin. In addition, men’s and women’s soccer and cross country, field hockey, and football have big matchups of their own.

The team is led by Kim Hermann with 10 goals and goalkeeper Megan Comunale with 36 saves.  The match against Juniata will begin at 1 p.m. and the match against Misericordia is set to start at 2 p.m. inside Cardinal Stadium.

VOLLEYBALL (19-3, 2-1 Landmark Conference)

The Cardinals will host round two of the Landmark Conference Round Robin this weekend in the DeFour Center.  Other teams participating in the action are: Juniata, Susquehanna, Scranton, Moravian, Goucher, and Merchant Marine. Last weekend the Cardinals went 3-1 at the Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet, defeating Rowan, Keuka, and Virginia Wesleyan.  The team was led by Claudia Jean with 19 digs and 13 kills and Bridget Kulesh with 13 kills and seven digs. Both were named to the All-Tournament Team. On Wednesday the Cardinals earned their 19th win of the season by downing Lancaster Bible 3-1. The Landmark Conference action will get underway at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

MEN’S SOCCER (9-3, 3-0 Landmark Conference)

The men’s soccer team is hoping to extend its winning streak to six and continue to be undefeated in the Landmark Conference as they host conference foe Juniata on Saturday.  Sitting in first place in the conference, the Cardinals are ranked 10th in this week’s NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region and they received votes in the D3Soccer.com national poll. The match against Juniata will begin at 1 p.m.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (7-5, 2-0 Landmark Conference)

The women’s soccer team, who is ranked second in the Landmark Conference, will also host Juniata on Saturday. Last Tuesday the team had their four game winning streak ended with a 2-1 loss to Shenandoah.  The team is led by Courtney Orgill who has seven goals so far this season and right behind her is Kate Masson and Caroline Burke with four each.  The match on Saturday is set to start at 3:30 p.m.

The football team will head to Newport News, Va. on Saturday to play Apprentice School.  The Cardinals lost to Randolph-Macon last Friday 51-34 inside Cardinal Stadium on Family Weekend.  The Cardinals pulled within three points late in the third quarter, but the Yellow Jackets scored twice in the fourth to put the game out of reach.  Mike Pitsenberger and Alonzo Cooke are leading the team in touchdowns with a total of five each. Quarterback Greg Cordivari is averaging 345 yards per game and has fourteen touchdowns so far this season.  Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday at Apprentice.
