Four Cardinals selected to Landmark Conference All-Academic Team
WASHINGTON – Four CUA student-athletes were named to the 2012-13 Landmark Conference Winter All-Academic Team on Tuesday. The four honorees include Nate Koenig (men’s basketball), Maria Docal (track and field), Justin Kenyon (swimming) and Rachel Berry (swimming).
Nominees can compete in any of the Landmark Conference winter
sports and must be a sophomore or older with at least a 3.0
cumulative grade point average.
Nate Koenig helped lead CUA to its first Landmark Conference title
in men’s basketball this season. A native of nearby Chevy
Chase, Md., the senior averaged 9.8 points and 5.9 rebounds for the
25-4 Cardinals, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA
Tournament. Koenig notched his first career double-double this
season and scored a career-high 19 points in a NCAA Tournament win
over Staten Island. A psychology major, Koenig is a member of the
Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll.
An All-Conference selection, Maria Docal helped lead the CUA
distance medley relay team to a gold medal at the conference
championship, with a time of 13:21.05. A nursing major, Docal is a
member of the conference Academic Honor Roll. She registered a 6th
place finish in the 500 meters at the Lebanon Valley Invite, and an
18th place finish in the 800 meters at the Frank Colden Invite.
Justin Kenyon is a history major with a grade point average above
3.5. He won the 500 freestyle against Marymount and Washington
& Lee, placed 8th in the 1650 freestyle at the Landmark
Conference championship, and finished 3rd in the 200 free against
Randolph-Macon. Kenyon is a member of the Landmark Conference
Academic Honor Roll.
Rounding out CUA’s selections is Rachel Berry, a civil
engineering major who is a member of the Landmark Academic Honor
Roll. Berry won the 100 butterfly at the conference championship
with a time of 59.87, and also finished second in the 200 fly, and
competed in the 400 medley relay. Berry won the 100 butterfly vs.
Randolph-Macon and finished 3rd in the same event against Mount St.
Mary’s.
