Landmark Conference names Holmes Player of the Week
WASHINGTON – After leading CUA to the Days Inn Tip-off Tournament title over the weekend, Shawn Holmes was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Holmes, who earned MVP honors at the tournament, averaged 21.5 points on 70% shooting in two wins for the Cardinals.
Holmes scored a game- and career-high 25 points, including the game-winning layup with only seven seconds to play, in CUA's 69-67 victory over host Dickinson on Saturday afternoon. The junior sank 9 of 14 shots from the floor, including three 3-pointers, and also totaled four rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists.
One day earlier, Holmes hit for 18 points in a 100-61 Cardinals victory over Penn State-Harrisburg. Holmes hit 7 of 9 shots and also pulled down five rebounds and recorded a pair of steals.
Holmes shot 60% from 3-point range and 89% at the foul line this past weekend. He is averaging 4.5 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist in the early going.
Holmes and CUA will be back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to face Frostburg State. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. It is the Cardinals lone contest this week.
