Landmark Conference names Holmes Player of the Week
WASHINGTON – The Landmark Conference named Shawn Holmes
its Player of the Week on Monday after Holmes led CUA to a pair of
wins last week. The junior point guard averaged 20 points, 5
rebounds and 4.5 assists in victories over Mt. Aloysius and
Gallaudet to help the Cardinals improve to 10-0.
Holmes netted a career-high 26 points in CUA’s 111-93 win
over Mt. Aloysius on December 12. He sank 16 of 19 free
throws and added four rebounds, four assists and a steal.
On December 17, Holmes scored 14 points, including a pair of
3-pointers, and also totaled six rebounds, five assists and a steal
in an 80-65 victory vs. Gallaudet.
Holmes, who was also named the Player of the Week on November 21,
currently leads CUA in scoring (15.5), assists (2.9) and steals
(1.8).
CUA is off to its second 10-0 start in school history following
the two wins last week. The last time the Cardinals were 10-0
was the 1927-28 season.
Holmes and CUA are off for the holiday break before returning to
action on December 31 at the CUA Residence Inn Greenbelt
Classic. The Cardinals will host MCLA at 4 p.m., with Buffalo
State and Wesleyan meeting in the other semifinal. The two
winners will then meet on January 1 in the championship.
