Cardinals selected second in conference preseason poll
WASHINGTON – CUA has been selected second in the Landmark Conference preseason poll, it was announced on Wednesday. The Cardinals received 64 points in the poll following a 2010-11 season in which they won 21 games and advanced to the championship of the Landmark and ECAC tournaments.
CUA returns a strong nucleus of players for this season, led by senior Andy Roell and juniors Chris Kearney and Shawn Holmes. The Cardinals posted their 11th 20-win season in the last 14 years last season, and played in the Landmark Conference championship for the first time.
Reigning conference champion Scranton sits atop the preseason poll with 77 points, followed by CUA and then Susquehanna in third with 48 points. Rounding out the poll are Drew (47), Merchant Marine Academy (45), Juniata (43), Goucher (21) and Moravian (19).
CUA will hit the road next week for an exhibition contest at the University of Florida in Gainesville on Thursday, November 3. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. The Cardinals regular season gets underway on Friday, November 18 when they take on Penn State-Harrisburg at the Dickinson College Tournament. Action begins at 6.
