CUA returns home to face Royals and Greyhounds this weekend

WASHINGTON - Riding a four-game win streak that has pushed it into a first place tie in the Landmark Conference, CUA gets back to work this weekend with a pair of home games against Scranton and Moravian.  The Cardinals lost to both opponents earlier this month on the road, but have since reeled off four straight wins, including last weekend at USMMA and Drew.

The Cardinals are 9-1 inside the DuFour Center this season, and 41-8 at home since the start of the 2008-09 season.  CUA is averaging 81.8 points in 10 home games in 2011-12, while holding teams to 67.9 points on 40.1% shooting.  The Cardinals also hold a +10.5 rebound margin and are shooting 47.4% from the floor inside DuFour.

Sophomore Pete Schramm delivered quite a performance in CUA's win at Drew last weekend.  The native of Pittsburgh scored 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting in only 10 minutes of action off the bench to help lead the Cardinals past the Rangers in New Jersey.

During its four-game winning streak, CUA has done a terrific job of holding onto the basketball, averaging only 8.5 turnovers during that time.  In two of those contests, vs. Juniata (7) and Drew (3), CUA had fewer than 10 turnovers.

The Cardinals have shot 141 more free throws than their opponents and made a staggering 151 more than the opposition.  CUA is shooting 74% at the charity stripe, led by Nate Koenig, who has hit 37 of 38 attempts (97.4%).  The Cardinals have shot at least 75% in 11 games.

The defending conference champion and preseason favorite Scranton Royals come to town on Friday evening, looking to bounce back from a pair of tough road losses last weekend.  Scranton had been rolling along, with eight straight wins prior to last week, before the two setbacks sent them into a tie for first place in the conference.

Four Royals are averaging double figures this season, including Travis Farrell (13.5), Luke Hawk (12.1), Ross Danzig (10.9) and Tommy Morgan (10.3).  Scranton leads the all-time series between these longtime foes 26-13.  CUA has not beaten the Royals since January 17, 2009, a span of nine games.

After winning four straight games in mid-January, Moravian has since dropped two of three, including a 66-65 decision at Susquehanna last weekend.  The Greyhounds enter this weekend at 4-3 in the league, which places them in sole possession of fifth place.

D.J. Strayhorn, the Landmark Conference Player of the Week on January 9, is averaging a team-high 20.9 points, with Garrett Johnson adding 13.6 per game.  Moravian downed the Cardinals last month in Bethlehem, but CUA still leads the all-time series 7-3.

Friday's game between CUA and Scranton is slated for a 7:30 p.m. tip.  On Saturday, the Cardinals will host Moravian beginning at 5.  CUA will offer live video and stats for both games.
