D3Hoops.com ranks Cardinals No. 11 in this week's Top 25 poll
WASHINGTON – Despite going 2-0 last week, the CUA men's basketball team dropped one spot in the D3Hoops.com poll, to No. 11, announced on Monday. The Cardinals are currently 17-2 overall and 7-1 in the Landmark Conference, sitting alone in first place.
CUA got last week started by running past Goucher 74-46 on January 23 at home. The Cardinals handed out a season-high 25 assists on 29 made field goals and shot 53.7 percent from the floor to earn the win. All five starters reached double figures on the offensive end, including senior captain Shawn Holmes, who scored 13 points and dished out a career-high 11 helpers.
On January 26, the Cardinals headed to New York for a matchup against Merchant Marine Academy. Led by a stifling defensive performance, CUA came away with a 54-42 victory, its fifth straight. The Cardinals limited the Mariners to 25.8 percent shooting from the floor and 17.4 from 3-point range, while Holmes and classmate Chris Kearney combined for 38 points, including the 1,000th of Kearney's career.
CUA is still unbeaten at home this season, sporting a 9-0 mark inside the DuFour Center.
The Cardinals also continue to pace the Landmark Conference in a number of statistical categories, including scoring offense, scoring defense, scoring margin, free throw percentage, field goal percentage, field goal percentage defense, 3-point field goal percentage, 3-point field goal percentage defense, assists, turnover margin, and assist/turnover ratio.
No. 11 CUA gets back to work on Wednesday evening when the Cardinals play host to Juniata College inside the DuFour Center. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
