Kearney, Holmes named to ECAC South All-Star Team
WASHINGTON – Chris Kearney and Shawn Holmes have been
named ECAC Division III South All-Stars, it was announced on
Friday. Kearney earned First Team accolades, while Holmes was named
to the Second Team. The pair of First Team All-Conference
selections helped lead CUA to its first Landmark Conference title
this season, as well as the Cardinals’ first NCAA Tournament
appearance since 2007.
The first player in Landmark Conference history to be named the Player and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season, Kearney ranks in the top-10 of five statistical categories of the Landmark Conference, including scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, blocks and minutes.
A native of Virginia, Kearney has scored in double figures 24 times this season, topping out with a career-high 32 points in a win over Scranton on January 19. Kearney then dropped another 30 points at Scranton on February 9.
The third leading shot blocker in school history, Kearney has twice been named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week this season, as well as the Landmark Conference Player of the Week. He has posted eight double-digit rebound games, with a high of 15 at Merchant Marine on January 26. That same day, Kearney scored the 1,000th point of his career.
Joining Kearney on the All-Conference First Team is Holmes, who averages 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game. A native of Baltimore, Holmes has hit for double figures in 25 games, with a high of 27 coming in a win against Randolph-Macon.
Holmes, who scored the 1,000th point of his career on December 30, handed out a career-high 11 assists in a win over Goucher, and currently ranks in the top-10 of six statistical categories in the Landmark Conference.
A two-time Landmark Conference Player of the Week, Holmes hit the game-winning shot in CUA’s 63-62 victory over Juniata in the Landmark Conference championship on February 23.
