NABC names Kearney 2013 Mid-Atlantic Player of the Year
WASHINGTON – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2013 Coaches' Division III All-District Teams on Monday, and CUA's Chris Kearney was named the Mid-Atlantic Player of the Year and a First Team All-District selection. This marks the third Player of the Year award for Kearney, who also earned the distinction from the Landmark Conference and D3Hoops.com.
Kearney became the first player in Landmark history to be named the Player and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. He was also named the D3Hoops.com Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year, as well as a First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference selection.
Kearney led CUA in scoring (16.7) and rebounding (7.0) this season, while shooting 53.1 percent from the field and blocking 2 shots per game. The 6-7 senior ranked in the top 10 of five statistical categories within the Landmark, including scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, blocks and minutes.
A native of Virginia, Kearney was named an ECAC All-Star earlier this month, and during the season, he was named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week on two occasions. He was also named the Landmark Player of the Week twice.
Kearney scored in double figures 25 times in 2012-13, topping out with a career-high 32 points in a win over Scranton on January 19. He then dropped another 30 points at Scranton on February 9.
The third leading shot blocker in school history, Kearney posted eight double-digit rebound games this season, with a high of 15 at Merchant Marine on January 26. That same day, the CUA tri-captain scored the 1,000th point of his career.
