Cardinals move up to No. 11 in D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll
WASHINGTON – After going 2-0 last week to claim the top
seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament, CUA moved up two spots
in the latest D3Hoops.com Top
25 poll to No. 11, announced on Monday. The Cardinals are 22-3
overall and 12-2 in the conference, and will open postseason action
on Wednesday evening at home.
CUA was last in action on Saturday, when the Cardinals raced past
Moravian
86-70 on Senior Day. CUA knocked down 50.8 percent of its shots
and four of five starters reached double figures, led by Chris
Kearney’s 19 points.
The Cardinals’ 22 wins this season are their most since
winning 23 games during the 2006-07 campaign. It also marks just
the third time in 102 seasons of CUA basketball in which the
Cardinals have won 22 regular season games. The other seasons were
2001-02 and 2002-03.
CUA’s 12 Landmark Conference victories are also a school
record. The Cards are a perfect 12-0 at home this season and enter
the postseason having won 10 of their last 11 games overall.
Top-seeded CUA hosts No. 4 seed Merchant Marine Academy on
Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Landmark Conference
Tournament semifinals. The winner of that game moves into the
Landmark Conference championship, slated for Saturday, February
23.
