Cards ranked 13th in D3Hoops.com poll, 1st in two statistical categories
WASHINGTON – D3Hoops.com
released its latest Top 25 poll on Monday and CUA is ranked
13th. The Cardinals are 20-3 overall and 10-2 in the Landmark
Conference, sitting alone in first place and already having secured
a home game in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
CUA, which was ranked No. 1 in the
initial NCAA Regional rankings last week, went 1-1 a week ago,
beginning with a 74-53 win at Susquehanna on February 6.
Sophomore Steve Limberiou drilled seven 3-pointers and scored a
career-high 29 points to help lead the Cardinals to victory. CUA
outscored the Crusaders 40-23 after halftime after leading by just
four at the break.
On Saturday, CUA traveled to Scranton, Pa., to face the Royals,
and despite cutting a 20-point deficit to just two, the Cardinals
came up short, 82-74. Chris Kearney notched his second 30-point
game of the season, both coming against Scranton, by sinking 13 of
19 field goals, while Limberiou added 15 points.
The NCAA released its latest statistical rankings on Monday, and
CUA ranks 1st in two categories, including assist-to-turnover ratio
(1.67) and fewest turnovers per game (9.6). In addition, the
Cardinals are ranked 9th in scoring margin (14.6), 10th in won-loss
percentage (87.0) and scoring defense (57.3), 15th in turnover
margin (5.1), 19th in 3-point field goal percentage defense (39.4),
25th in field goal percentage defense (38.9) and 28th in assists
per game (16.0).
Individually, Limberiou is 2nd in 3-point percentage (48.8),
Kearney is 24th in blocked shots (2.13) and Bryson Fonville is 28th
in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.29).
No. 13 CUA plays twice this week, beginning with a trip to face
Goucher College on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. The Cards then
return home on Saturday to host Moravian College at 6 on Senior
Day.
