MADISON, N.J. – Chris Kearney scored 21 points to help lead No. 14 CUA to a 66-55 win over Drew on Saturday afternoon in the Landmark Conference opener. The Cardinals led by as many as 23 in the second half, and used a 40-24 advantage on the backboards to earn their fifth straight win.
Leading by only two with 11:07 to play before halftime, CUA closed the half on a 22-8 run to surge into the locker room with a 36-20 advantage.
A Bryson Fonville basket with 6:08 remaining in that first half gave the Cards their first double-digit lead of the day, and after Shawn Holmes splashed a jumper two minutes later, the lead was up to 14.
Kearney began the second half with a layup to give CUA an 18-point lead, and following a Holmes free throw and Nate Koenig tip-in, the Cards were on top by 21.
Steve Limberiou's 3-pointer with 11:09 on the clock put CUA in front by 23, but Drew answered with a 13-2 run to pull within 12 with 6:49 to play.
CUA kept its double-digit lead for the remainder of the game and Holmes' three with 1:44 remaining all but sealed the win.
