CUA back in the top 10 of D3Hoops.com poll
WASHINGTON – CUA is back in the top 10 of the D3Hoops.com Top
25 poll, announced on Monday. The Cardinals, winners of
seven straight, are No. 8 this week, after capturing two more
conference victories last week. CUA is alone in first place
in the Landmark Conference at 9-1, and a perfect 11-0 at home this
season.
CUA began last week with a 62-53 win over Juniata on January
30. The Cardinals exacted revenge on the Eagles, who handed
CUA its lone conference loss of the season earlier in the
month. An 18-point lead had dwindled to four, before CUA
closed the game on a 9-4 run.
On Saturday, February 2, Landmark Conference
Player of the Week Shawn Holmes dropped 24 points, including a
10 of 10 showing at the free throw line, to lift the Cards to an
84-73 victory vs. Drew. Nate Koenig also had a big night,
scoring a season-high 17 points and pulling down 10 rebounds for
his first career double-double.
In the latest NCAA statistical rankings, released on Monday, CUA
is ranked 2nd in the nation in turnover ratio (1.61) and fewest
turnovers per game (9.7), 5th in scoring defense (56.4), 9th in
scoring margin (15.4) and win percentage (90.5), 14th in field goal
percentage defense (38.1) and 15th in turnover margin (5.4).
No. 8 CUA begins a three-game roadtrip on Wednesday evening when
the Cardinals head to Selinsgrove, Pa. to face the Susquehanna
Crusaders. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m.
