Fonville Earns First Career Landmark Conference Player of the Week Honor

WASHINGTON - Sophomore point guard Bryson Fonville was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week for the first time in his career after leading the Cardinals to 2 wins and maintaining an unblemished conference record at 4-0. Fonville was also tabbed to this week's D3Hoops.com Team of the Week which recognizes the top players at each position from across the nation.

Fonville had a very strong week leading Catholic to a 2-0 record and keeping the Cardinals atop the Landmark standings. In Wednesday's battle for first place against Juniata, Fonville played the entire game without a turnover on his way to a career-high 33 points. He was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line and dished out four assists while grabbing three rebounds as the Cardinals took down the Eagles on the road.

On Saturday, the sophomore point guard played conductor for the Cardinals offense that scored a season-high 97 points against Moravian. Fonville had 19 points and handed out eight assists in addition to his five rebounds.

For the week, Fonville shot 64.7 percent from the floor while averaging 26.0 points and 6.0 assists. In 72 minutes of action, he only committed one turnover.

The Cardinals (10-5) currently sit at the top of the Landmark standings with a perfect 4-0 record in conference. CUA will hit the road for its next three games, starting with a trip to Selinsgrove, Pa. for a matchup with Susquehanna on Wednesday, January 22 and will wrap up the week with a visit to Scranton, Pa. for a doubleheader against the Royals.

Notes:  This is the second Landmark Conference Player of the Week honors for the Cardinals this season, Jared Prince was tabbed the Player of the Week on 11/25... Fonville was the only sophomore selected to this week's D3Hoops.com Team of the Week, the other four players were all seniors... This is the second consecutive week a Cardinal was named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week, Emily Grabiak represented Catholic last week on the women's side.
