Played at at the Harold J. Cordts Physical Education Center, the Cardinals improved to 1-1. The Bobcats fell to 0-2.
Fonville, a junior point guard, was 10 of 22 from the field, including 2 of 7 on 3-pointers, and added a 7-for-9 performance from the line. Howard connected on 5 of 11 shots and 7 of 17 from the line for 17 points. The freshman forward added 12 rebounds and blocked two shots.
Fonville and Howard, who led CUA in scoring at Davidson on Saturday, had three assists each. The Cards only committed five turnovers, while forcing 11, and held Frostburg to 27.9 percent shooting (17 of 61).
Nick Smoot led the Bobcats with 12 points but was held to 4 of 16 shooting. Jabari Kamau scored 10 points.
Fonville scored 17 points in the first half and Howard 10 as CUA took a 40-22 lead into halftime. The Cards, who never trailed, scored the first seven points and closed the half on a Fonville trey from the top of the key.
CUA travels to Owings Mills, Md., to take on Gwynedd Mercy in the 10-team Hoopsville National Invitational Classic on Friday at 4 p.m. The Cards' second game in the tournament is against Purchase State on Sunday at 5 p.m. CUA defeated two ranked teams during the inaugural event in 2012.
