WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's basketball team saw its season come to a close in the NCAA Tournament First Round on Friday night, falling to Endicott, 84-76. The Cardinals held the Gulls in check in the first half, but Endicott caught fire in the second to earn the win.
CUA held a six-point lead at the half, 38-32, holding Endicott to just 2-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc, but the Gulls came alive in the second, knocking down 7-of-11 triples to score 52 points in the second half.
Catholic owned the rebounding advantage, coming down with 14 offensive boards for 17 second-chance points, but Endicott blazing second half shooting (14-of-28) was too much to overcome.
The Cards led early in the second, 47-38, but five-straight 3-pointers by the Gulls gave them the lead and sparked a 17-2 run.
CUA closed to within four at 55-51 and were down by just five, 75-50, with 1:28 left to play, but six-straight Endicott free throws helped clinch the tournament-advancing win.
