TOWSON, Md. – Four-year standoout Kyle Phanord of The Catholic University of America has earned the 2016 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete for Men's Basketball.
A biology major boasting a 3.66 GPA, Kyle Phanord is the co-captain of the 2016 Landmark Conference Champion Catholic men's basketball team. Not only did he start every game for the Cardinals this past season, he has never missed a game in his career.
A two-time Landmark Conference Champion, Phanord has helped Catholic to three NCAA Tournament berths and three Regular-Season Landmark titles.
This past season, he ranked second in the conference with 2.8 3-pointers per game and was fifth with a 42.5 3-point field goal percentage. He finished the season as Catholic's fourth-leading scorer with 9.4 points per game and was selected to the Landmark All-Sportsmanship team.
Phanord is also extremely active off the court as he is involved with campus ministry and has been a part of several service projects including wreath-laying at Arlington National Cemetery and soup kitchens in Washington, D.C.
The Davie, Fla., native along with his twin-brother and co-captain Kevin, will both graduate this May with a focus in dentistry and orthodontics. The twins with will continue their doctoral degrees at the University of Florida's medical school as they both plan to become dentists.
Catholic has now been honored with three of six Landmark Conference Winter Senior Scholar Athletes, joining Josephine Migash (women's basketball) and Erin Schlegel (women's indoor track & field).
