WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's basketball team (12-3) improved to a perfect 4-0 in Landmark Conference games thanks to a hard-fought, overtime victory inside the DuFour Center on Saturday afternoon over Moravian, 89-84.
The Cars trailed by three at the half but battled back to take the lead in the second half.
The game featured eight lead changes and 13 ties and nearly did not see an extra period as Khouri's floater as time expired, rimmed out. Howard and Khouri made sure they made the most of OT however as they each added four more points to account for eight of Catholic 10 points.
Howard finished the game with a team-high 26 points and went for the double-double with a game-best 13 rebounds. He also added three assists and a steal and went 10-of-18 from the field.
Khouri also hit the 20-point mark and rounded out his line with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in a game-high 43 minutes.
Moravian did much of its damage from the 3-point line with 14 treys made to just three for Catholic. The Cardinals countered by getting to the free throw line 42 times and hit at an 85.7-percent clip.
The Cards also owned the advantage on the boards, 42-33, and grabbed 10 offensive rebounds.
Catholic also got a big boost off the bench from rookie Ross Gerber who played a season-high 22 minutes and added nine points, a 3-pointer and two boards.
After a two-game homestand, the Cardinals now hit the road for two contests next week with a matchup at Goucher on Wednesday before facing Scranton on Saturday.
