WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's basketball standout Jay Howard has led the Cardinals to the top of the Landmark Conference thanks to two wins last week and was recognized by the league as the Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Catholic improved to a perfect 4-0 in Landmark Conference games and 12-3 overall thanks to a hard-fought, overtime victory inside the DuFour Center on Saturday afternoon over Moravian, 89-84.
Howard had a monster double-double, his fifth of the year, versus the Greyhounds. He finished the game with a team-high 26 points and a game-best 13 rebounds. He also added three assists and a steal and went 10-of-18 from the field.
Against E-Town, Howard led all scorers with 18 points on 5-of-6 attempts from the field and eight free throws. He added game-high seven rebounds to go along with two steals, two assists and a block.
It is the sixth time in Howard's career that he has earned the Athlete of the Week honor as he has now been selected twice in each of his first three seasons.
Catholic has garnered four of eight awards handed out this season and six of the past 11 in a streak that stretches back to last year.
After a two-game homestand, the Cardinals now hit the road for two contests next week with a matchup at Goucher on Wednesday before facing Scranton on Saturday.
