Season in Review

The Cardinals had one of their most successful seasons in the history of the program when they upset No. 1 ranked Rowan 92-88 at the DuFour Center, won the regular season title in the CAC and received an at-large bid to the 1996 NCAA Division III tournament. It was the fourth NCAA tournament appearance in school history and second in four seasons under Head Coach Mike Lonergan. The Cardinals lost in the first round to Cabrini 85-65.

Graduate student John Douglas (left), who was the first player in school history to play on two NCAA tournament teams, led the team in scoring (18.4 ppg) and rebounding (8.4 rpg) and made first-team all-CAC, Division III News Honorable Mention All-American, Columbus Multimedia second-team all-Middle Atlantic District, second-team NABC/Sears Middle Atlantic District and second-team ECAC South Region. Douglas finished his career fifth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,774 points. Check final stats, box scores and game summaries.

Junior point guard Sammy Briggs averaged 13.2 points, 6.1 assists and 2.1 steals and was named second-team All-CAC. Briggs was also named Columbus Multimedia Honorable Mention all-Middle Atlantic District and was selected Columbus Multimedia National Player of the Week (Jan. 15-21). Junior Jeremy Borys was selected to the 1995-96 GTE Academic All-America District II Basketball Team. The Cardinals raised $3,000 to help fight cancer during the Coaches vs. Cancer game against Rowan.
