Rice, Hilleary power Cardinals past Western Maryland
WASHINGTON - Senior Andy Rice had 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals to lead five Cardinals in double figures as No. 11 Catholic University defeated Western Maryland 85-68 at DuFour Center on Saturday, Dec. 9.
Sophomore Matt Hilleary tallied 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks for the Cardinals, who improved to 5-2. Freshman Alan Hoyt led the Green Terror (3-4) with 16 points and six rebounds, and freshman Sam Anstead had 15 points. Senior Jack Kowalik and sophomore Desmond Esteves scored 11 points apiece.
Freshman Will Morley added a career-high 12 points for CUA, and senior Tim Judge and sophomore Brian Meyer scored 11 points each. The Cardinals led 39-31 at halftime.
Rice scored seven points in a 9-0 run, punctuated by a 3-pointer to give CUA a 56-38 lead with 12:17 to go. Morley made it 63-43 at the 9:42 mark when he took an inbounds pass from Pat Maloney (five assists) and hit a layup.
