Catholic wins 20th, will host York in semifinals
WASHINGTON - Matt Hilleary (Manassas, Va./Seton School) posted his second consecutive double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Will Morley (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) added 19 points to lead the No. 15 Catholic University men's basketball team to a 96-60 victory over Gallaudet in the first round of the CAC Tournament at DuFour Center on Tuesday.
The Cardinals (20-5), who won 20 games for a fourth consecutive season, will host York College (14-11) on Thursday night. The Spartans advanced with an 86-81 victory at Mary Washington.
Jerimias Valencia led Gallaudet (5-20) with 15 points and Frank Jackson had 14 points and seven rebounds. It was CUA's 14th consecutive victory over the Bison.
Pat Maloney had 14 points and seven assists for the Cardinals, who jumped to a 13-0 lead and led 52-27 at halftime. Maloney hit 4 of 5 3-pointers and is now just six points shy of 1,500 for his career. Hilleary hit 6 of 7 shots and Morley 7 of 8 as CUA made 59.7% (37-62) overall. Reserve guard Craig Avallone tied his career high with 10 points. He also had 10 in against Gallaudet on Jan. 13.
