Catholic defeats Mary Washington in defensive struggle
WASHINGTON - Catholic University held Mary Washington College to 51 points while only allowing the Eagles to shoot 31.1% from the field at the DuFour Center on Jan. 17 in a 61-51 win against the Eagles. Both teams started off slowly as Catholic held a 21-19 lead at the half and both shot barely better than 25% from the field.
In the second half Catholic doubled their first half effort by scoring 40 to pull away partly due to Cardinal sophomore center Matt Hilleary, who scored 11 of his 14 points in the second period. Senior guards Pat Maloney and Andy Rice also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Mary Washington was kept in the game until late by forward Dan Dupras who tallied 20 points for Mary Washington. John Kidwell also added 10 points in the loss.
Catholic improved to 11-4 and 3-2 in the CAC, while Mary Washington fell to 5-7, 3-2.
