WASHINGTON - Catholic won its fifth consecutive game as four
Cardinals scored in double figures in a 77-50 win against Haverford
on Thursday night at the DuFour Center.
Sophomore Blair Mills (Hebron, Md./Wicomico) led CUA with 15 points and nine rebounds. The sophomore also had an assist, a steal, and a block.
Catholic took the lead for good early in the first half as sophomore Will Morley (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) hit a free throw on the end of a three-point play to give Catholic an 8-7 lead. The Cardinals then went on a 22-3 run as the Fords went more than five minutes without a field goal. Kevin Wise (Newtown, Pa./Notre Dame [N.J.]) hit three three-pointers in that stretch. The junior finished with 13 points. Catholic led 46-22 at the half.
It was more of the same in the second half as Catholic would lead by as many as 32 points. Junior Chris Altenburger (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) was part of the charge as he finished with a career-high 12 points and two steals. Mills would also get hot as he scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half.
Catholic shot 32-for-71 (45.1%) from the floor while hitting a season-high seven three-pointers. The Cardinals dominated the glass, swiping up 46 rebounds compared to Haverford's 35.
Haverford (0-9) was led by Javier Garcia as he netted a game-high 17 points. Teammate Cam Scribner was tough down low, grabbing five rebounds and posting five blocks while scoring four points.
The Cardinals resume action on Saturday, Dec. 8, with a non-league contest at Western Maryland at 3 p.m.
