Cardinals win 11th in a row, top St. Mary's

WASHINGTON - Catholic cruised to its 11th consecutive win as the fourth-ranked Cardinals defeated St. Mary's 86-61 on Thursday night at the DuFour Center. Four players finished in double figures as William Morley led all scorers with 17 points. The junior also collected eight boards and dished out three assists.
Junior Blair Mills recorded his first double-double of his career, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 caroms.
The Cardinals (22-2, 13-0) used an 8-0 spurt midway through the first half to keep a double-digit lead throughout most of the period. Matt Hilleary's tip-in off a Patrick Satalin 3-pointer just before the half, gave CUA a 41-28 lead at the break. Hilleary would finish with 14 points, seven boards, and four blocks.
St. Mary's (6-17, 3-9 CAC) could only get as close as 51-41 in the opening minutes of the second half before Catholic went on a 10-0 run to pull away for good.
Morley's layin off a give-and-go with Craig Avallone (12 points, five rebounds) gave the Cardinals their biggest lead of the game at 82-55.
Freshman Shane Sowden added five points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a blocked shot.
Ben Stewart was one of four Seahawks in double figures, as he netted 14 points.
The win gave this year's senior class exactly 100 wins, matching the most wins ever set by a senior class. The National Championship class of 2001 finished with a 100-21 record. This year's three seniors thus far have a career record of 100-15.
