WASHINGTON - Four Cardinals finished in double figures led by Matt Hilleary's 25 points and 12 rebounds as fourth-ranked Catholic won its eighth consecutive game in a 96-59 romp over Marymount in a Capital Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at the DuFour Center. The senior All American was 11-for-20 from the floor and added a game-high 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.
The Cardinals (19-2, 10-0 CAC) led from start to finish and used a 27-6 run midway through the first half to break open the game. CUA had its biggest lead of the period as senior Craig Avallone drilled a three-pointer to give Catholic a 49-17 lead. Avallone finished with 12 points and added five assists and two steals.
Leading 53-27 at the break, Catholic kept a 20-point cushion throughout the second half, as the Cardinals shot 15-for-33 from the floor in the stanza and 35-for-71 for the game.
Junior William Morley scored 20 points and hauled in seven caroms while freshman Shane Sowden bucketed 10 points off the bench.
Carson Robinson led Marymount (9-11, 4-6 CAC) with 15 points and 11 boards and teammate Carlton Phelps added 13 points.
It was the largest margin of victory in the series, which Catholic leads, 23-10.
Catholic takes on Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. in a matchup of two ranked teams on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast on D3hoops.com.
