Nov 22, 2003

LANCASTER, PA. --- Senior William Morley (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) scored a game-high 18 points and Catholic held Washington & Lee to just one field goal in the last four minutes of the game as the 18th-ranked (D3Hoops.com) Cardinals picked up their first win of the season in a 72-61 win over the Generals in the consolation game of the 2003 Sponagule Classic hosted by Franklin & Marshall College.

Sophomore Matt Tanner (Eldersburg, Md./St. Maria Goretti) added seven points and six rebounds as the Cardinals avoided their first 0-2 start since the 1993-94 season.

Leading 33-29 at the half, Catholic (1-1) went on a 9-0 run to start the period but the Generals (0-2) climbed to within one at 56-55 with 2:52 in the game.

Morley would help CUA pull away for good as he drained a three-pointer and then hit on a tough bucket inside on consecutive Cardinal possessions.

W&L's David Hill was one of four Generals in double figures, finishing with 13 points.

Catholic shot 24-of-55 from the floor and was good on 7-of-23 from beyond the arc. Five of those treys came in the second half. Freshman Patrick Dwyer (Williamsburg, Va./Waslsingham Academy), making his first start of his career, scored nine points, all on three three-pointers in the second stanza.

The Cardinals return home to face Haverford College on Tuesday, November 25th in the DuFour Center opener at 8 p.m.
