Men's Basketball Tops Buffalo State
ATLANTA, Ga- The Catholic University of America earned first place at the Oglethorpe Holiday Classic, edging out Buffalo State University 77-75 in Saturday afternoon's contest. The team now improves to 8-2 overall.
The Cardinals lead by as much as 9 points in the opening minutes of the game. The Bengals went on a 15-6 run to bring them within one point with just five minutes left in the half. CUA remained composed, and a three-pointer by Brian Baker (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) gave the team a 36-31 advantage going into the locker room.
The remainder of the second half was a back-and-forth battle between the two hungry teams. CUA took gained a ten point lead, but the Bengals came charging back and came within one with under seven seconds left. A made free throw by CUA's Jason Banzhaf sealed the 77-75 win for the Cardinals.
Leading the way for Catholic University was Banzhaf with 23 points and 10 rebounds. RJ Hindelang (Ocean City, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) and RJ Dixon (Charlotte, N.C./Cannon School) each recorded ten points.
The Cardinals return to the hard wood on January 3rd for a 4 p.m., game against St. Joseph's (Brooklyn).
