WASHINGTON-- Matt Fazzini (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) dropped a career high 21 points as CUA kept their winning streak alive defeating Stevenson (formerly Villa Julie College), 82-62.
Jason Banzhaf (Livingston, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) joined Fazzini in the 20 point club, shooting 8-10 from the field and adding three free throws. In total, ten Cardinals contributed at least one point to the 20 point victory.
Starting only 25 seconds into the game, CUA took a two point lead and never gave up that lead. Extending the lead to as many as 26 points before the break.
In the second half, the Cardinals shot only 45.0% from the field, but a 19 of 27 half from the charity stripe kept the CUA lead in tact.
Stevenson's biggest run came early in the second half as the Mustangs cut a 23 point lead to 12 in just over four minutes, but they would come no closer as CUA's grip down the stretch tightened and the Cardinals extended their lead back to as many as 22 before Matt Leddy made two free throws for Stevenson with 55 seconds left in the game cutting the lead to 20 and settling the final score.
CUA shot 55.3% from the field for the game, including a 63.0% effort in the first half. Rebounds were even for the match, but CUA held a slight edge in the turnover battle.
The Cardinals will return to action Tuesday, November 25, at 7 p.m. when CUA will travel to Haverford.
