Men's Basketball Ends Regular Season With Authority
WASHINGTON-- The CUA men's basketball team played its final regular season home game tonight, and finished in front of the home crowd in dominating fashion, winning 73-48.
Jason Banzhaf (Livingston, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Spencer Reed (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) scored nine and grabbed 11 boards, as CUA defeated Goucher College Saturday night.
Micah Perry led the way for the Gophers with 20 points while Darrin Boswell II and Conor Martin added four rebounds each to lead Goucher.
CUA dominated all aspects of the game, out rebounding the visitors 49-23 including a 40-19 advantage on the defensive glass.
The Cardinals shot 55.2% from the field in the first half and 50.0% in the second half. Patience to get a high percentage shot was shown all night by the Cardinals, who scored 28 points in the paint. CUA also added 12 points from free throws.
In the first six minutes of the game CUA broke out to a 12 point lead, and never looked back. With 11:59 showing on the clock in the first half, Goucher's Darrin Boswell II brought the Gophers to within eight, but a 7-0 run by CUA put the Cardinals up by 15 with 9:31 remaining.
CUA secured a 17 point advantage at the break and with the exception of a two point cut into the lead on the second shot of the second half the Gophers never cut the lead to less.
The Cardinals will now await the results from other games around the league to find out who they will play and where they will travel to for Wednesday evening's game.
