Men's Basketball Falls to Juniata, 71-64

WASHINGTON-- Led by Jason Banzhaf (Livingston, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), who recorded another double double tonight scoring 25 and grabbing 13 rebounds, the Cardinals fell to Juniata, 71-64.
Nick Olivero (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) and R.J. Dixon (Charlotte, N.C./Cannon School) both added double figures for the Cardinals, as the team shot 12 of 18 from the charity stripe.
Dave Thompson led the Eagles with 22 points, while Ryan Jones and Eric Mueseler added 12 and 17 points, respectively.
After Sean Stolzenthaler (Middletown, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) hit an early three point shot and gave the Cardinals a one point lead and then tied the game at five only seconds later, the visitors went on a 9-3 run and took a six point lead. CUA cut that lead down to one twice, but as the second half continued the Eagles extended their lead to as many as 11 before taking a ten point lead to the break.
In the second half Juniata extended its lead to as many as 12 but a relentless effort by the host Cardinals saw the game tied with only 2:50 showing on the clock.
The Cardinals managed only four points in the final 2:50 while the visitors relied on six free throws on eight attempts and a three point shot by Jeff Berkley down the stretch to preserve the lead they held most of the evening.
CUA out rebounded its opponents 41-31, including and 18-6 advantage on the offensive glass. CUA also moved the ball well marking 17 assists during the contest.
CUA will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. as the Cardinals will host the Crusaders of Susquehanna University at the DuFour Center.
