Men's Basketball Tops Grove City College, 75-59
WASHINGTON-- Led by a 20 point and 10 rebound, double-double for Jason Banzhaf (Livingston, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), CUA defeated Grove City College 75-59 in the opening round of ECAC Tournament action.
Joining Banzhaf in double figures was Spencer Reed (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) with 13 points, Nick Olivero (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) with 12 points, and Brian Baker (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) with 11 points.
Grove City managed four players in double figured, led by Andy O'Keefe who finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.
The Cardinals seemed to run away in the first half, grabbing a nine-point lead with 6:03 left, but saw that lead disappear over the closing seconds, ultimately with the visitors taking a one-point advantage to the locker room.
CUA broke out early in the second half, going on a 13-5 run over the first four minutes and never looked back. The visitors made several runs at the lead, but could never get closer than six points, with 11:55 remaining.
The Cardinals won the battle for points off turnovers, 25-9, including an 11-0 margin in the first half. CUA also won the battle off the bench scoring 15 points to Grove City's 5.
CUA will return to action on Saturday, at 1 p.m. at Cabrini College, as the Cardinals will take on Washington & Jefferson who defeated No. 3 seeded Pitt-Bradford, 77-69.
