WASHINGTON- A 13-0 second half run by Washington and Jefferson proved to be the downfall of the CUA men's basketball team Saturday evening, as the Cardinals fell to the Presidents 57-41. The squad finishes the 2008-2009 season with a 19-9 record.

The two evenly matched teams battled back and forth from the opening tip-off, and a total of six lead changes took place in the first twenty minutes. A jumper by R.J. Dixon (Charlotte, N.C./Cannon School) put the Cards ahead by five with just over three minutes in the half. W&J hit two free throws and a three-pointer in the closing minutes, and both teams headed to the locker room deadlocked at 21.

The Presidents began the second half with an offensive barrage that went unanswered by the Cardinals, as they took a comfortable 33-21 lead at the 14 minute mark. A three-pointer by Jason Banzhaf (Livingston, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) with just under five minutes to play brought CUA within 10, but the team was unable to come any closer. W&L ran away with a 57-41 victory.

CUA was led by Banzhaf, who scored 14 points and and 8 rebounds. Dixon recorded 8 points, three boards, and two assists, while Nick Olivero (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) and Clay Penacle (Jenkintown, Pa./Academy of the New Church) tallied 8 and five rebounds, respectively.
