WASHINGTON- Catholic University forward Jason Banzhaf was recognized as a Division III preseason All-American by three publications. His team is ranked in the top 40 by D3hoops.com.

Banzhaf (Livingston, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) was named preseason honorable mention All-American by The Sporting News and fourth-team All-American by D3hoops.com, and was of DIII News' top 24 preseason All-Americans.

A 6-foot-4 junior, Banzhaf led the Landmark Conference in scoring last year (20.3 ppg) and averaged a team-leading 7.9 rebounds. He was first-team All-Landmark, first-team All-Middle Atlantic Region (D3hoops.com) and honorable mention All-American (DIII News).

Banzhaf started all 28 games in 2008-09 and shot .562 from the field, .446 from 3-point range and .801 from the line, all team highs. He was Landmark Rookie of the Year in 2007-08.

Returning several top players from last season and welcoming a heralded recruiting class, the Cardinals are poised to improve upon last season's 18-10 record and 8-6 mark in Landmark play.

CUA opens against St. Vincent in the White Rose City Classic at York, Pa., on Sunday at 7 p.m. The Cards will then play either York (Pa.) or Penn State York on Monday. The host Spartans and Cardinals used to compete together in the Capital Athletic Conference.
